*NMA denies doctor’s arrest
Family of Senator Isiaka Adeleke has said the cause of the former Osun State governor’s death is not known yet, even by the pathologists.
Addressing a press conference at the Ede residence of the deceased, his younger, Deji Adeleke, said the family was told that the report of the autopsy would be ready in one or two weeks.
Deji urge the public to disregard claims in the social media about the cause of the politician’s passing.
He urged his late brother’s supporters to be calm, saying Adeleke was not known for violence.
On its part, the Osun State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association described as untrue the arrest of a doctor, who some aides to Adeleke claimed treated him before his death.
Some of the aides to the senator had said a doctor living nearby was called to first treat him before he was rushed to a private hospital where he died.
They also said that the doctor was later arrested when it was discovered in the autopsy that he administered an overdose painkiller on the deceased.
But the Chairman of NMA in the state, Dr. Tokunbo Olajumoke, and Secretary, Dr. Olalekan Ajayi, said in a statement on Wednesday that no doctor treated him at home. The statement read in part, “The NMA, Osun State branch wishes to disclaim the news of the arrest of a doctor in connection with the unfortunate circumstance.
“We wish to that no doctor was involved, implicated nor arrested as being purported in some media.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Idiat Babalola has expressed her gratitude to Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun for rescuing her when she was attacked by angry supporters of Adeleke in Ede.
Babalola, a statement issued on Wednesday, stated that the hoodlums, who attacked her, also robbed Adeleke of the state burial planned for him by the state government.
