Ronaldo, right, with Captain Ramos: Madrid thrash Celta Vigo
Real Madrid are now at the summit of La Liga, overtaking Barcelona by three points after thrashing Celta Vigo 1-4 today.
The goals came from Cristiano Ronaldo, who recorded a brace, scoring in the 10th and 48th minute. Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos also scored to give Madrid a comfortable victory.
The hosts however had a consolatory goal in the 69th minute, following a defensive error by Isco.
With one match remaining, Madrid are now at the pole position to win the season’s league trophy. Barcelona won it last year.
Madrid now have 90 points to Barcelona’s 87 points. But the Catalans have a superior goal advantage of 77 to Madrid’s 63, meaning that the championship tussle will only end on the last day.
Madrid must win their last match away at Malaga on 21 May to clinch the trophy, Barcelona, hosting Eibar on same date, must hope that they win and Madrid slip in Malaga.
